Jose Ignacio is not for everybody! The rich and famous who have their houses there chose it because it is away from the excitement and bustle of Punta del Este but within easy reach. In other words the perfect place to get away from the rest of us! For my part whilst the beaches are fantastic they are no better than anywhere else along this wonderful stretch of coast and the village itself is just too quiet. For most of the year it seems to be closed with the only signs of life being the estate agents who stay open whatever the weather and whatever the season. The superb fish restaurant does open at week ends and there is a store but all in all I like a bit more life. Having said that, shops bars and restaurants are available in abundance 10 minutes down the road in Punta del Este proper and come the season the place comes alive.
Because it is so fashionable, Jose Ignacio is the ideal place for a rental investment as well as a home. You won't have a long season, but from Christmas and in January and February it is almost a case of name your own price.
